4th Annual Honey Winners

CEBA experienced an education surrounding the Welsh Honey Judging Contest!

Members from CEBA and other invited guest had the opportunity to submit samples of their honey in classes of Extracted Honey, Black Jar, Chunk/Cut Comb categories.  Members were also welcomed to bring any MISC items from artwork to beeswax, in order to have it reviewed by Marcy Cornell.

Nearly two dozen beekeepers showed up to find out how their honey and technique’s in handling honey stacked up under a Certified Welsh Honey Judge!

The results were both excellent and educational for the members!

Barbara Phillips and Linda Harms put together an entire line-up of first, second and third places, along with adding the “Commendable” awards from the Welsh Honey Judge, Marcy Cornell.  On top of that, Barbara had additional prizes for those placing.  Linda taught a frame building workshop and had lunch prepared.  It was a lot of fun and both Barbara and Linda did a great job!

So let’s take a look at the winners across the contest.

Bobby Colson was taking it easy on us by only submitting a couple of honey entries.  Of course, he places even when he holds back!

Bobby’s Amber Extracted Honey is judged “Commendable” by Marcy Cornell.

Bobby admitted later he was trying to let the President win somthing this year!

Jane Quattlebaum took 5th Place in the Black Jar and we don’t know how she escaped the photos.  So we’ll just post another photo of Terry Holland to cover this one!

As President of CEBA, I have seen our club grow from our first Black Jar contest that Laura Liu started while we were at Kelly Tours, to now a educational event with a Certified Welsh Honey Judge!  It is so rewarding to see just how well our members honey talents are becoming and I hope this is the beginning of even larger honey contest for us at Oatland.

A great big THANK YOU to Marcy Cornell, Barbara Phillips, Linda Harms, and our additional judges, Lee Trzecieski and Aki  (Barbara’s daughter-in-law)!
